Why does my image look cropped in some placements?
Updated Jul 5, 20261 min read
Meta shows ads in placements with different shapes, including square feeds, tall Stories and Reels, and more. When a single image does not match a placement's shape, Meta may crop it to fit, which can cut off the edges.
How to avoid surprises
- Keep important content, such as text, faces, and your product, near the center, away from the edges.
- Provide or generate assets in placement-friendly ratios, like square (1:1) and vertical (4:5 or 9:16).
- Preview the ad before launching, so you can see exactly how it appears in each placement.
The simplest fix
If a placement keeps cropping badly, supply a version made for that shape. You can ask Mark for creative in the sizes you need, or upload versions tailored to specific placements. A little planning here keeps your ads looking intentional everywhere they run.
